Eternal Round of Multiple Callings and Elections

Multiple Callings and Elections in One Eternal Round:

A few of the Latter-day Saints I have known have told me that there are actually Multiple Callings and Multiple Elections that can be made Sure by God. For me, this Truth was initially revealed to me by attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sundays and listening to what the Saints had to say about it all.

A person or two asked for scriptures that talk about Multiple Callings and Multiple Elections.

The comprehensive list that comes to mind is: Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price.

I already mentioned D&C 84 and D&C 132 in previous posts.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can also serve as a living Model for Multiple Callings. Think about it for awhile and let it sink in. I know that most of us are not used to seeing things this way. I wasn’t at first. So, I first had to be open to it before I was able to see it. I had been initially taught that there is only One Calling and One Election. It became a stumbling block preventing further light and knowledge, until Latter-day Saints helped me to get past it.

Once my eyes were opened to this, it became a great deal of fun to perform this simple exercise.

Take any prophet you want in any of the Standard Works, and then study all the different callings that person performed or magnified in order to have his “Really Big Election” made Sure by God. A Really Big Election is made Sure by doing the work, by magnifying all the many different callings that the Lord issues to the man within the Church of Jesus Christ and within his own personal family. On his way to making one of the Really Big Callings and Elections Sure, the man slowly becomes a shepherd in his ward and in his family, in similitude of the Great Shepherd Jesus Christ. While working towards the Big Election made Sure, the man learns to feed Christ’s Sheep. Why would God have any reason to make a man’s Election Sure, if the man hasn’t learned how to feed Christ’s Sheep? Why would God have any incentive to make a man’s Election Sure, if the man has no intention whatsoever to use that Election in an effort to continue to feed Christ’s Sheep for the rest of Eternity?

Then, after you see in the Scriptures where God makes the man’s Really Big Calling and Election Sure, then notice in the sentences and the verses that follow thereafter the New Calling(s) that God issues to the newly Made Man. When the Really Big Ones are made Sure, then God always issues a New Calling somewhere within the Church of Jesus Christ. In our time, the newly Made Man is often sent on an LDS Mission of some sort or is told to volunteer to work in the LDS Temples. After the Election had been Made Sure, and the man is now a Made Man, then there is always more work for the man to do within the Church of Jesus Christ and a New Calling is always given.

This can be a very fun and simple exercise, and it can be applied to any Prophet in the LDS Scriptures, assuming of course that there is enough information in the LDS Scriptures concerning the Prophet you have chosen to study. I would recommend that you start with the Dispensation Heads, The Presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ, the Patriarchal Prophets, and the Twelve Apostles in all dispensations of the Gospel.

The Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood discussed in D&C 84 is an Election, it is a gift from God. Please read D&C 84 over and over again until your eyes are opened and you can see. How is that particular Election made Sure? It is made Sure by accepting and magnifying lots of little callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and within one’s own family. The man learns to use the Priesthood of God to feed Christ’s Sheep, and over a process of time, when God knows that he can now trust the man, then that particular Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood is made Sure. It becomes an Eternal part of the man for the rest of Eternity, and thus the man is Called to use God’s Priesthood to feed Christ’s Sheep for the rest of Eternity. God plays for keeps.

Eternal Marriage or Celestial Marriage is an Election, a gift from God. This one is discussed in D&C 132. How is this particular Election made Sure? It comes about by a husband and a wife working together on lots of little callings within their own family and within the LDS Temples and within the Church of Jesus Christ, until the Lord and the couple know that they want this husband and wife team to be together for the rest of Eternity. At that point, the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit of Promise will seal that union or make that particular Temple Marriage or Election Sure.

An Election is a gift from God, a blessing or a talent. An Election made Sure opens a New Door. Some of the Really Big Elections can be attained by garnering together lots of spiritual gifts, blessings, and talents from God and making those a sure part of the individual or an integral part of the individual. Study the parable of the Talents. Notice that all of those little talents are used at the end of the parable as a reason to give the person one of the Really Big Elections or Gifts from God. An Election is a gift from God. God elects or chooses to give the person a gift. It’s called an Election because God elects or chooses to give the elected person a gift.

When one door closes or one chapter ends, another one always opens. That’s the nature of Eternal Progression. We move from one Calling to the Next for the rest of Eternity. Starting as Intelligences in the pre-mortal existence, we move from one Election to the next until we become Gods and Goddesses in the Celestial Kingdom. Every Election is a gift from God, a blessing, a spiritual gift, or a talent; and, Elections always open a New Door.

There is nothing new or strange about any of this. It has been going on since the beginning of existence.
